Sawyer got out of bed several times this evening. After, oh, maybe the fifth time, I explained some things to him and then took him back to bed. Max said to me, "Mommy, did you talk to Sawyer out there?" I told him yes. Then he asked, "Did you raise your eyebrows?" Haha! Apparently I have a certain look when I mean business!

8:45pm and Max was begging...BEGGING...for a pork chop. He said, "But my belly is hungry and I sleep for a long time so I need a pork chop now." I didn't want him to be hungry so I cut up a few bites of leftover pork chops from dinner and he gobbled them down.

I guess he was indeed hungry!

I've been trying to do a better job of making the boys try some foods that they wouldn't normally eat. So for Sawyer, that includes everything except yogurt, bread, and pb&j. Tonight we had roasted baby carrots and he didn't want to try it. I made him eat one measly carrot before he could be excused from the table. He shook his head and cried and tried to spit it out but in the end he ate it. And when he did finally give in and swallow the little carrot, he was SO proud of himself. Clapping and exclaiming "I did it!". I'm hoping that sense of accomplishment will be enough to make him want to try new foods again tomorrow! But if not, we'll do it one carrot at a time and I will continue to hide pureed carrots in his peanut butter :)
Tonight in the childcare room at the YMCA, the boys got to play with friends whom they haven't seen in quite a while, Cole and Caleigh.

The worker told me that Caleigh said, "Our moms are best friends." And Max piped up and said, "No, they are not because Mommy is MY best friend."

Yesssssss!!! :) Made me happy!
Max loooooves to talk about policemen. "Mommy, please tell me a story about a police." I hear this everyday! We were in the Dollar Tree yesterday and Lukas picked up a couple toy handcuffs and toy guns. As expected, the toys fell apart later that same day. We told the boys they were just junky.

Today, Sawyer holds up the broken gun and says, "This Uncy's?" I was trying to figure out why he thought it was Uncle Ryan's when he saw us buy it just yesterday. He said, "This Unc?" Then I realized when I said "junk" he thought it was "unc".

Oh, Sawyer :)

Who doesn't love to be covered in warm towels fresh from the dryer?

Tonight.

After dinner Lukas took the boys downstairs to play for a while. I was listening to them laugh and giggle as Lukas "arrested" them for committing such crimes as stealing diapers. Lukas was gone all day and the boys missed him as much as he missed them.

At bedtime we did our normal routine...books, prayer, and songs. Sawyer felt especially sing-songy tonight as he sang "Open the Eyes of My Heart" several times. I got him on video at about the third time through. His words were much clearer the first couple times :) So precious to hear him sing. Max's song of choice was "This Little Light of Mine" and he sang it oh so seriously.

Here's Sawyer:

After about 30 minutes of being in bed I overheard the boys having a conversation. It went something like this:
Sawyer: 'quints
Max: Squints?
S: ' quints
M: Squints?
S: No, quints.
M: Squints? From Sandlot?
S: No.
M: Tell me what you're saying. Who? From what?
S: 'quints.
M: You're not saying Squints? You're not saying... What are you saying? Tell me.
S: 'QUINTS
M: Squints?
S: Yes.
M: Oh. Let's go to sleep.
S: Why?
M: I'm tired.
S: Me?
M: What?
S: Let's go seep, 'axy.
M: No.
S: 'Axy, I tired.
M: Okay.

It was seriously funny! I mostly wrote that whole conversation so I could remember it :) Crack.me.up!

His feet are his favorite toy!

We've been watching a lot of Sandlot around here lately. Which leads to playing a lot of catch in the toy room. Sawyer put on his baseball glove today (on the wrong hand), backed up, held up the ball and said, "Eye...on...the ball, Mommy." So serious!
Today I felt a nagging. Well, maybe nagging isn't the right word. More like an urge. Yes, that's a better word. God was saying to me, sit down and study my Word, Kari. So at naptime I got my chance. I sat down and opened my ESV study Bible to Mark. (Correction: Lukas' study Bible that I steal.) This Bible is so great because it gives you context, back stories, cross-references, etc. Anyway, I came across Mark 8, verse 38 to be exact. Listen up...

"For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."

Aye, aye, aye! I had to bow my head immediately and ask for forgivness. I want to let this truth push me out of my comfort zone and to a place where I am no longer ashamed to share the gospel. Jesus came to this earth to preach the good news. I desire to imitate that. (That is not an annoucement that I seek to be a woman preacher, so settle down :) )

Pray for me, will you?

This morning I was in the bathroom getting ready and Max was in there brushing his teeth. I noticed it was a bit too quiet so I went to find Sawyer. He was under the table trying to go #2. I encouraged him to sit on the potty but he was having none of that. So I went about my business and left him alone. A couple minutes later I'm in my room and I hear this conversation:

Max: Sawyer, are you trying to go poo-poo in your diaper?
Sawyer: No!
Max: Yes, you are. You should do that in the potty. Want to?
Sawyer: No, I can't!
Max: Can't died in the poor house!

I go out to the living room and Max tells me, " I told Sawyer a talk about potty training."
Why do I ever let myself feel anything other than blessed? Love these boys.
